CHISLEHURST
led by Wilf Walker
Sunday June 26th
This was an approximate 4/5 mile walk from Chislehurst station , primarily in beautiful
National Trust woodlands, looking at clues for the underlying geology of
Blackheath, Lambeth and Thannet beds.
The lunch stop was at at the “Rambler’s Rest” a 17th century hostelry.
There was plenty of room either on the hill outside, or in the garden. Unfortunately they
did not do cooked food on a Sunday, but they were nice enough to let us eat our
sandwiches in the garden.
From the Ramblers Rest to Chislehurst caves was about a 15 minute walk,
including a stop to look a rare exposure of Thannet sand. The tour took about 1 hour.
Afterward, refreshments were available at Wilf & Ena's house - thanks to you
both.
