HASTINGS AND PETT LEVEL

Saturday 12th June 2004

Led by Ken Brooks from the local Hastings and District Geological Society

The aim of the trip was to examine sedimentary structures and fossils of the Lower Cretaceous Hastings Beds (Ashdown Formation and Wadhurst Clay) which are beautifully displayed in the cliffs between Hastings and Cliff End, Pett Level. Ken has written a booklet describing the cliffs and so knows them well. In the morning we looked at the cliffs from Cliff End to Fairlight Cove, had lunch in the local Smuggler Pub, and in the afternoon drove to the other end to examine the Hastings end from Rock-a-Nore to Ecclesbourne Glen.
